Let me draw your attention to a paper by Ward-Paige and Lotze published yesterday in PLoS ONE. This is very nice and timely indeed. I especially welcome the mentioning of the eBird initiative. It is time that we start thinking about a similar project for elasmobranchs. We have been doing something similar but at a much smaller scale for the Shark Reef Marine Reserve. It is time that we get such an initiative for sharks and rays to the next level. The expertise certainly is available, so all we need is somebody taking the lead and yes of course, some funding! But that should be doable I think.
